Middle School & Junior High Counselors
Some of the roles of a middle school or junior high counselor include:
Short-term counseling to students
Referrals for long-term counseling support
Crisis intervention and response
Assist students in developing good peer relationships and managing/resolving peer conflicts
Individual and group student academic planning and goal setting
Assessing student abilities, interests, and achievement to help them make decisions about their future
Preventative classroom guidance activities
Promoting positive school climate by nurturing self-awareness, acceptance, and diversity
Collaboration with families, teachers, administrators, community for student success
Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
Data analysis to identify student issues, needs and challenges
Collaboration with Social Worker for families in crisis or Families in Transition
