Springdale Schools is dedicated to integrating the arts into all areas of education to create well-rounded, well-prepared learners and leaders. The arts help students develop creative problem-solving skills, visualize difficult concepts, and become more connected and engaged in school. The arts have a remarkable impact on a student’s overall success.
Students can explore visual arts such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, design, and crafts through educational programs and curriculum, as well as partnerships with organizations such as Arts Feeds, Crystal Bridges, Arts One Presents and many more. Students in all grades contribute to projects that include school installations, community murals, and gallery exhibits throughout Northwest Arkansas.
Instrumentalists can explore high school band programs and classes that include Marching Band, Jazz Band, Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Orchestra, Guitar, Piano, Introduction to Music Theory, Music Composition, Sound and Recording Technology, and AP Music. The junior high band programs include Wind Symphony and Symphonic and Concert Bands. The middle school band programs include homogeneous instrument classes.
Vocalists can explore high school choir programs and classes that include Camerata, Bel Canto, Concert Women’s and Men’s Choirs, Unity, Colla Voce, Viva Voce, Sophomore Select, and A Cappella. The junior high and middle school choirs include Men's and Women's Choirs.
Over 5,000 students participate in Springdale band and choir programs. The Springdale School District is the only district in Arkansas that has had a band program featured at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. In addition, Springdale Bands have been invited to this event on three separate occasions. The band and choir programs are internationally recognized performing arts programs and consistently have large numbers of students who qualify at All-Region and All-State competitions. In fact, the Springdale band and choir programs have led the state in All-State qualifiers for many years.
There are likewise no limits to the theatrical opportunities in the district, with students at all age levels having opportunities to participate and learn through original and popular plays, musicals, festivals, and community celebrations.
Studies have shown students who regularly participate in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, participate in a math and science fair, win an award for attendance, or win an award for writing an essay or poem than students who don’t. The arts are one more way for Springdale to ensure the success of our students.
