Dr. Marcia Smith has been named the Deputy Superintendent for the Springdale Public Schools.
"Being selected as the Deputy Superintendent of Springdale Public Schools fills me with a mix of gratitude, pride, and excitement. I am honored to have been chosen for this position, and I am grateful to Dr. Cleveland and the Springdale School Board for placing their trust in me. I will continue to work with the talented educators and staff of Springdale Public Schools to enhance the quality of education, implement innovative strategies, and ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive academically and personally." Smith said. " I am committed to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where students and staff have the support they need.”
Smith has been with the Springdale School District for 33 years. Smith has been at Southwest Junior High as a Math Teacher, Springdale High School as a Math Teacher and Department Chair and an Assistant Principal, a Principal at George Junior High, an Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Teaching and Learning and has been Associate Superintendent for the past 5 years.
Jared Cleveland, Springdale School District Superintendent, said Dr. Smith will lead with true professionalism.
"She knows Springdale and has dedicated her professional career to the betterment of our students, faculty, staff and community" Cleveland said. "She is the epitome of servant leadership and I am proud to serve on this team with her".
Smith has a Ph. D., Specialist, and Masters from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Teaching from John Brown University
"I plan to continue the work of excellence previous Deputy Superintendents Mr. Jones, Dr. Cleveland, and Mr. Hayes did before me. They left big shoes to fill. I hope to continue to create systems that support the students, staff, and families of Springdale." Smith said.
Smith has been married for 33 years to Brenton. When she is not working in Springdale Schools, she serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Arkansas. "It brings me great satisfaction to witness aspiring individuals in the field of education strive for higher degrees and continue their professional journey in the realm of academia." Smith said.
She also holds the position of President-Elect on the Arkansas Association of Curriculum and Instruction Administrators (AACIA) Board, where she helps shape educational policies and initiatives in the state.
When she and her husband find free time, they enjoy swimming, spending time with family and friends, and taking road trips.
