The Arkansas Association of Secondary School Principals has named Stehanie Hinsey of Central Junior High School as Assistant Principal of the Year.

Hinsey was recognized for the achievement by about 800 staff and students Jan. 16 at the school’s first-ever Character Assembly.

“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” Hinsey said at the assembly. “While it might look like a personal achievement, it is truly a reflection of the work of many in the district and the amazing teachers, staff, parents, community members, my family and, of course, you—the students.”

The award is given annually to an Arkansas secondary level assistant principal who has succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students and has been recognized as exhibiting exceptional leadership skills in the school community, according to an Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators press release.

Hinsey shared a quote Central Junior High School Principal Dr. Todd Loftin gave her, a habit through which he spontaneously inspires students and staff members.

“Surround yourself with people who have good character and great things happen for you,” she said before adding her own reflections. “When you surround yourself with people who show up every day, get good grades, treat others respectfully, you will do the same.”

Hinsey added that's a truth she knows because of the amazing people she works with every day–people who inspire, empower and work for excellence for all.

The educator has been a member of Central’s staff for four years, Loftin said.

“Mrs. Hinsey lives out Central’s mission by prioritizing safety, relationships and learning, ensuring the wellbeing of both students and teachers,” Loftin said. “She focuses on student success and teacher fulfillment by considering the social, emotional and academic needs of every individual, using these needs to guide her decisions for the good of the entire school community.”

The educator was likewise honored Jan. 14 at the district’s monthly School Board meeting, where she was presented with a plaque by Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland.

“I want to congratulate Mrs. Hinsley,” Cleveland said as he shared praises for the assistant principal.

Hinsey takes a whole child approach to decision making, said Associate Superintendent Shannon Tisher.

“It’s obvious that she is evaluating the needs of all students when making decisions,” Tisher said. “There is an inclusive environment at the school, in the classrooms, and you can see evidence of it in the culture and the climate of the school as well.”

Hinsey is the latest Springdale educator to earn the AASSP Assistant Principal of the Year recognition. Prior district recipients include Thomas Doppe, Elizabeth Barker and Don Eichenberger.
