Students are Earning and Learning...
Workforce Training Director Rodney Ellis recognized participants in the Earning and Learning program at the School Board meeting.
The program helps participants balance jobs and their education as they work toward graduation and future careers!
The program fits well into the school district's Big Audacious Goals, said Shannon Tisher, Curriculum, Instruction and Innovation assistant superintendent for grades 8-12.
Big Audacious Goals:
- Each child will be on or above grade level in reading every year as measured by the state summative assessment.
- Each child will be on or above grade level in math every year as measured by the state summative assessment.
- The district will exceed the state averages on summative assessments.
- Each child will be on the path to on time graduation (engagement /attendance K-12).
- Each student will engage in College/Career Readiness planning that will lead to a post-secondary graduate placement or career track.
Professional Development
School Board President Randy Hutchinson recognized Board Member Eddie Ramos for obtaining his Certificate of Boardsmanship.
Ramos completed about 25 hours of training through the Arkansas School Boards Association to earn the recognition.
Hutchinson also announced the board received an Outstanding Board Award, an Arkansas School Boards Association award given to boards in recognition of members’ continued professional development.
American Association of Employment Education President
The School Board celebrated district Federal Programs Director Kimberly Glass for serving a second term as President of the American Association of Employment Education.
Founded in 1934, the AAEE provides resources and networking opportunities to connect higher education and school systems, both nationally and internationally, according to the organization's website.
Members include professionals from colleges, universities, school systems and nonprofit and for-profit organizations. AAEE is a resource and liaison to these professionals, facilitating quality PK-12 hiring practices, according to the website.

Assessment and Accountability Director Kelli Langan presented the school district's Annual Report to the Public to the School Board at tonight’s meeting.

Don Tyson School of Innovation Charter Report
Principal Kelly Boortz presented the Don Tyson School of Innovation Charter Report to the School Board.
The school seeks to ensure all students graduate with a diploma and accelerated learning connected to the arts, college, business or industry.

Revised School Board Meeting Dates
The School Board approved revising the School Board meeting dates for January and February.
The Board will meet at 5 p.m. on Jan. 9 and Feb. 7 at at the District Administration Building at 804 W. Johnson Ave.
