Harp Elementary EAST students are taking class photos this year for everyone at the school. They demonstrated their method to school board members and district administrators and even had photos printed for each of them before they concluded their visit to the school. Innovative practices help make Springdale Public Schools #THEChoice.

Tyson Elementary is taking the Kindness Challenge for the fifth consecutive year but has added an element of community involvement. Tyson students produced notes to give to residents of three nursing centers in Springdale. Their hopes? To bring smiles to the faces of the nursing center residents and show they are cared about. Caring for the community is another reason Springdale Public Schools are #THEChoice.

ZSpace Station Brings Unique Learning Tool to Don Tyson School of Innovation
Warren Utsler is an art teacher at the Don Tyson School of Innovation but he is also fascinated
by technology. He secured a $10,000 grant from Donorschoose to set up an Innovation Lab that brings
amazing virtual reality possibilities to the school.
“zSpace is the leader in the development of educational virtual reality systems and software,”
said Utsler, who is in his fifth year at the DTSOI after teaching art at Har-Ber High School for two years.
“The zSpace Station will provide our students a unique personalized experience that eliminates the
barrier between the user and content by combining elements of augmented reality and virtual reality in
one platform that allows the user to explore and create lifelike experience never before possible inside
or outside the classroom.”
What in the world does that mean?
“zSpace software allows students to annotate, dissect and manipulate thousands of 3D models,
like the anatomy of a human body,” Utsler responds. “zView allows an instructor to share 3D models
with virtual learners at home or face-to-face in the classroom.”
The zSpace Station allows a multitude of students to combine on a project that only one or two
could be involved in utilizing an actual element like an engine for diesel technology or a real body part
for medical students.
“I’d like to find the right funder or funders to help us purchase at least 10 more of these zSpace
Stations,” Utsler said. “We have a lab ready for them that will provide plenty of space for more students,
socially distanced, to work with the zSpace stations at the same time.”
For now the zSpace Station is housed in the school’s Makerspace. Utsler believes DTSOI is the
first school in Northwest Arkansas to have this technology. Teachers at DTSOI are currently being
trained to use the zSpace Station. Those working with the zSpace Station wear 3D glasses.
Amazing, innovative technology helps make Springdale Public Schools #THEChoice.

Luke Duncan, Jeff Holland and Rebecca Wallis (left to right), instructors in Springdale High School's Engineering and Architecture Academy, secured a STEM grant for $70,734.24 to provide significant updates for the Computer Integrated Manufacturing program of study. The funds will be used to purchase computers, a band saw, hack saw, CNC Milling Machine, drills, 3D printer, drill press, robotic arm kits, VEX IQ and other items for use beginning in the fall of 2021. "We are very excited," said Holland. "This will allow engineering lab updates that have been very needed." Wallis added, "These updates will allow us to meet industry standards." Innovative technology helps make Springdale Public Schools #THEChoice.
